 About this recording
This recording was originally issued by Proudsound in 1991 to mark the bi-centenary of Mozart's death, and was highly acclaimed at the time:
The Austrian Mozart bonanza outlined last month has received a modest but almost perfect English reply this month. In the best tradition of the unexpected, the small record company Proudsound has released a CD of Mozart’s Three Salzburg Masses (K192, 220, 275) from the Quiristers and Choral Scholars of Winchester College and a quartet of soloists, three of whom are young singers developing promising careers, with the excellent counter-tenor Charles Brett completing the team. Julian Smith directs the performances with a small ‘authentic’ band of well-known players. I am spellbound by the quality. Every strand of texture contributes its share to the whole with such luminosity as to make Mozart’s uplifting simplicity glow with love and joy. I do not expect in the grandest Mozart Bicentenary offering this year to discover a better tribute.

The Musical Times, January 1991

At the end of the year, it was selected by Paul Griffiths of The Times as one of the year's top ten classical records.
